Surgically proven small bowel intussusception in children: Analysis of 36 cases

Background: Intussusception is one of the most common abdominal emergencies in children. While majority childhood intussusceptions are ilecolic and idiopathic, small bowel rare a pathological trigger often blamed for etiology. Ultrasonography commonly used diagnostic tool diagnosis intussusception.
 Objectives: To determine auxiliary criteria ultrasonography differentiation based on ultrasonography, reduction surgical findings surgically confirmed to contribute treatment algorithm our clinical experience.
 Methods: The records patients who underwent surgery intussusception at Faculty Medicine, Department Pediatric Surgery between January 2008 December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Demographic characteristics, ultrasonographic findings, onset duration symptoms, method, intraoperative histopathological results recorded.
 Results: Thirty-six pediatric with operated. average age these was 59 ± 49.7 months %78 male. location detected by ultrasound scan paraumbilical area left quadrant 19 (53%) right 15 (42%) patients. In mean diameter invaginated segment 3 (1.2-6.5) cm length 6.7 (3-15) cm. Pathological lead points etiology nineteen Thirteen (36%) segmental resection anastomosis due necrosis.
 Conclusions: Small localized upper quadrant. However, it should be kept mind that may lower like ileocolic invaginations. Enema can as an adjunctive method exclude invaginations rather than decisive decision intussusception.
